Which iPhone 5 will work in South Africa?

With all the hype going around the iPhone 5 and Apple fans wanting to get it ASAP, be careful all iPhone 5’s are not created equally! As yourself this important question ” which iPhone 5 will work in South Africa” There are two model numbers in existence currently one is a a1428 GSM only and the other a1429, within the this model there are also GSM and CDMA models. In South Africa the model safe with is the a1429 GSM. In my discussions with the guys in the know at Vodacom this model will be suitable for the LTE service currently in the testing phase. Upon request you can get provisioned for the LTE service.

To clarify I must just say that the other models are world phones and are said to work in other countries provided they are not locked to a specific network. The only down side is that LTE will not work in every country depending on the band the LTE service is run in the specific country.

So which iPhone 5 will work in South Africa on LTE? The a1429 GSM.

The Models are as follows according to Apple:

GSM model A1428: UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 4 and 17)

CDMA model A1429: CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B (800, 1900, 2100 MHz); UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5, 13, 25)

GSM model A1429: UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5)
